Empowering students, educators and administrators with the skills to create a sustainable future This workshop teaches an understanding of sustainability with concrete applications for the classroom that will inspire your students to become informed leaders and decision makers. You’ll develop capabilities to teach sustainability and systems thinking using an interdisciplinary approach within your classroom, school and district. |

| Workshop Agenda

Select from one of three workshops tailored to your needs and students’ age TRACK 1 — Introduction to Sustainability: This workshop involves a variety of interactive sessions to develop an awareness of sustainability and the application of knowledge, skills, attitudes, core content, and competencies of Education for Sustainability. Activities include systems thinking, quality-of-life indicators and ecological literacy skills. (Grades K-12; Leader: Jaimie Cloud)
TRACK 2 — Green Schools: This workshop uses the systems of a building as a teaching tool for activity-based lessons using the Understanding by Design (UbD) template. It focuses on a student centered, project based learning format that uses local real-world situations to engage students in the process of brainstorming and problem solving as an integrated approach across numerous disciplines such as science, geography, performing arts, and technology. (Grades 6-12; Leader: John Henry) TRACK 3 — WET, WILD and Learning Tree Sampler: This workshop introduces hands-on, interactive activities that will engage students in learning about the environment. Project Learning Tree, Project Wild and Project WET are award winning international K-12 programs offering more than 300 lessons using the natural world to teach math, science and other subjects. Jaimie Cloud is the founder of the Cloud Institute and a thought leader in the field of Education for Sustainability. She designs and facilitates professional development programs and directs the collaborative development of numerous instructional units and courses for K-12 and Higher Education. John Henry is a founder of the Green Schools Leadership Institute, a collaborative forum for teachers utilizing buildings as a context for learning.
